Denis Rovinskiy is a visual and sound artist. Born in Russia, he lives and works in Miami, Florida. Rovinskiy earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida International University, summa cum laude (2019), where he is a Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator alumni (2019).
Largely driven by scientific phenomena, Rovinskiy creates interactive kinetic installations and performances, audiovisual art, experimental photography and sculpture, examining the sociopolitical undertones of color theory. Some of his most recent works, exploring the field of Lissajous figures, are produced by live-coded sine waves and custom apparatus with lasers, blending cutting-edge high-tech with retro low-tech in search of new ways of expression.
Recent shows include “Postcards From the Edge,” benefitting Visual AIDS, Bortolami Gallery, New York, NY (2020) and UNAFFRAID Magazine Online Group Show “#cancelled” (2020). Upcoming projects include live audiovisual coding at TidalCycles algorave and “Miami Beach Open House” with curator Belaxis Buil. Objects from “(Purpose) Fail” and “Trē, Knot Theory” series are currently on view at Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum in Miami, Florida as part of the “Gift Shop Project,” curated by Yi Chin Hsieh (till May 15, 2021).
Rovinskiy recently received an award from Oolite Arts Relief Fund (2020) and two MÁS! Grant Awards from Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs (2020).
